ABOUT US

According to the National Institutes of Mental Health , “Even though mental disorders are widespread in the population, the main burden of illness is concentrated in a much smaller proportion — about 6 percent, or 1 in 17 — who suffer from a serious mental illness.   In addition, mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and Canada for ages 15-44. ”  In Fort Wayne, many people with a serious mental illness still spend years attending the same group therapy sessions and going in and out of the hospital or jail. 

It is the mission of the Carriage House to assist these adults in their recovery.  Recovery at the Carriage House means gaining or re-discovering the skills and self-esteem necessary to return to work or school, move into better places, stay out of the hospital, and re-claim one’s life.

Over the last ten years, the Carriage House has had remarkable success.  Since our inception, some of our outcomes include:
