Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised over $600,000 toward our housing initiative. We are inviting individual donors and community partners to help us reach our goal and break ground.
Why Housing Matters
Since 1997, The Carriage House has walked alongside adults living with serious mental illness — helping them find work, build community, and reclaim their lives.
Most of the people we serve live well below the poverty line. Rising rents, a shrinking pool of landlords who accept housing vouchers, and a shortage of supportive housing options have left many of our members housing insecure — or homeless.
Homelessness doesn’t just affect where someone sleeps. It destabilizes everything — mental health, employment, connection to community, and hope for the future.
The Crisis We Cannot Ignore

It provides me mental and physical stability when I know I have a secure place to lay my head at night

A Bold and Practical Vision
The Carriage House has a plan — and it’s already in motion
We are building Carriage House Apartments: permanent, affordable apartment homes for adults with mental illness who are active members of our community. Residents will pay one-third of their monthly income for rent, ensuring affordability regardless of income level. They will continue to receive the support, community, and connection that The Carriage House provides.
This project is designed to be both permanent and self-sustaining — not a temporary fix, but a lasting solution.

It means stability, even through the hard struggles.

Any gift you can share will have real and lasting impact on some of the most underserved individuals in Fort Wayne. Many find that larger gifts are within their reach when they consider monthly or quarterly payments over a multi-year pledge period.
